M3 Badge Updates on my BMW M3 GT

UPDATE November, 2000:
In October it was time for the big inspection (called Inspection II at BMW) last month. While it was at the AG branch, I let them install new tires since the old ones from the previous owner where at the end of their life time. I asked them if they had the new Michelin Pilot Sports (OEM on the E39 M5 and the new E46 M3). With the directional profile design around the center rib which serves as a 'water channel', they are supposed to be much better on the wet than the old MXX3 Pilot SX's. After driving them for about 2 weeks on the GT, they also seem to handle better on the dry (or is it just because they are new and the old SX's were 'down to zero'!? ;-))...

This is how the new Pilot Sport's look like. The size on the GT is 235/40ZR17. New pics of the GT with them mounted on it will follow...  These are the older style Michelin MXX3 Pilot SX's that I used on my previous M3 and that were on the GT when I bought it.

UPDATE Late April, 2000:
Everyone's searching for easter eggs, I rather search for new angles and spots on my car for interesting pictures ;-) So here's another set of some detail shots and full shots of the GT.

The Carbon Fiber door sills on the GT, with the Motorsport Plates. Stock from the factory like all other gimmicks on the M3 GT.

UPDATE April, 2000:
Weather is nice, so finally an opportunity to take some pictures of the new blinkers...

Not only on the rear, but on the sides also. The clear front blinkers came from the factory on the M3 GT.

Doesn't it look classier with the white blinkers all around?

UPDATE December, 1999:
Only a few weeks of happiness with the like-new GT. A E30 325i obviously ran over a red stop light and slightly touched the GT on the left side... Got out of the car and looked at the panel behind the driver's door (where I expected the damage): Couldn't see anything. Drove to work (with the guys number, you can never know...). And on the drive back home, while stopping at the gas station, I indeed registered a deformation that was only visible from a certain angle and light. Again a few days at the branch for fixing and repainting (1200 Marks this time), and while it was there, I let them fix a few small dings on the panel at the right side with their paintless dent repair technique. By the way: Having heard of different experiences with paintless dent repair, either negative or positive, i can only say that if you let it perform in one of those larger BMW AG Branches here in Germany, it's great and looks perfect and it's not that expensive too. Also, since it was at the branch anyway, I decided to switch to clear blinkers all around the car.

UPDATE September, 1999:
In August 1999, a moron in a rusty, 17-yr old VW Golf rear-ended my beloved GT at a stop light. The impact was not that hard, it sounded hard though ;-) Thank god only some slight damage on the rear bumper, still - with the new parts (the bumper and diffusor had to be completely replaced) and paint - it was over 4500 German Marks total invoice at the BMW AG branch to have it fixed. His insurance paid for it, so why save here? :-) Anyway, the rear bumper seemed to have done a pretty good job protecting the car's body. While it was at the branch for repair, the engine hood got a new repaint too. It looks like new now, with all the stone chips gone!

Mods/Experiences and so on...:

LIGHT:
To improve lighting, I switched to Philips BlueVision head lamps (in H7). They are very cool. Not this cheesy bluish (and illegal) crap that VW Golf GTI's seem to love here in Germany, but clear white light. Recommendable.

PERFORMANCE:
Felt no need for serious performance (Turbo etc.) tuning yet, except a chip tuning with a 29 hp gain (295 + 29 = 324 hp) and removal of the 250 kph speed limiter (280 kph). Cars that I was easily able to keep up with on the lovely unlimited Autobahn back home from work in the evening include: Porsche 993 S, BMW M5 E39, Ferrari 355 GTS, Jaguar XKR.
In March it was time for an oil change. I decided to stick with the BMW 5W-30 full synthetic for high performance engines, as with my previous M3, because of the positive experiences with it.

EXTERIOR:
Clear blinkers on the sides and rear.

INTERIOR:
Carbon Fiber cockpit and Bi-Color Leather from the factory didn't call any desires for interior tuning so far. However, such chrome rings for the gauges (like in the M Coupe/Roadster) would be funny.
